Antioxidative, phytochemical and antimicrobial analysis of juices of eight citrus cultivars grown in Pakistan

Comparative nutritional analysis of citrus varieties cultivated in Pakistan has not been reported. Citrus is consumed all over the world due to its taste and also pharmacological components. The present investigation evaluated antioxidant, reducing power, total flavonoids phenolics, DPPH free radical scavenging, protein kinase inhibition, antimicrobial activities eight Pakistani varieties. Grapefruit showed maximum antioxidant potential (77 µg AAE/100 mg), followed by Kinnow Shakri. Khatai power (69.6 mg) while Shakri trailed it. All significant scavenging activity. Maximum phenolics juice were found Kinnow; 26.2 25.9 GAE/100mg, respectively. Variation content was observed as Kinnow>Grapefruit>Shakri>Khatai. juices mild moderate antibacterial activity, Mosambi Malta contained potent antifungal HPLC revealed that catechin genotypes except Kinnow. study concludes contain strong antioxidative potential, bear inhibitors can be used cancer chemoprevention supportive nutrition.
